DMW is an acronym for Davido Music Worldwide and it is one of the top record labels in Nigeria which was founded by Nigerian-American artists known as Davido.
So many artists, both male and female has been signed to this record label and in this post we are going to look at the first female artist that was signed to DMW Records.
Who is DMW first female artist?
DMW first female artists is Liya who was officially signed to the imprint on October 2nd 2020 by the record label’s boss David Adeleke aka Davido..
As the first lady of DMW record label she has been given nicknames like “DMW’s first lady” and “30BG’s first lady”.
Liya was born Abdulsalam Suliyat Modasola in the year 1999 and she came into the music limelight after signing to the DMW imprint which heralded the release of her first single titled “Melo” in 2020.
The official music video for the single “Melo” was directed by Dammy Twitch and released on December 8, 2020.
A brief history of Liya’s career.
Liya’s musical career began in 2020 when she was revealed to the public via Davido’s tweet about signing the first female artist into his record label, and during an interview with OkayAfrica, Liya said “I played Davido a couple of my songs, including “Melo” and he was hooked, then he asked me and my manager to travel with him the next day to Abuja. During our trip, he started saying “first lady way”, then took it to twitter.”
On 27 December 2020, Liya was named one of the 10 Nigerian Artistes To Watch in 2021 by Guardian Life Magazine, and she was also curated by Chisom Njoku, and Asa Asika for Guardian Life Magazine
On July 228, 2021, Liya announced that her first EP titled “Alari” will officially be released on August 20, 2021 under the DMW imprint.
On 24 May 2022, her EP Alari made her to be nominated for The Headies in the Best Vocal Performance category for femaleand on 25 August 2021, she released the music video for “Adua”, directed by Dammy Twitch,[11] and went on to release “Adua (Remix)” with a guest appearance from Simi in 2022.
