Lyta is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who was born Babatunde Rahim in Ajegunle in Lagos, Nigeria but is a native of Kwara State.
He began his music career by being a member of Ile Kewu music group at his local mosque until February 2018 when he signed a record deal with YBNL Nation record label and released his breakthrough single titled “Time” which he featured Olamide.
However, in 2019, Lyta confirmed that he did not have any written contracts with YBNL Nation.
Is Lyta still with Olamide?
Lyta is no longer with Olamide who signed him to YBNL Nation record label, and this means that he is no longer signed to the label.
The rumors about Lyta leaving YBNL Nation began when Olamide was noted to have unfollowed Lyta on Instagram, and on May 2019, Lyta himself appeared on Naijaloaded TV to confirm his exit from YBNL Nation.
He maintained that even though he was earning 50,000 and 80,000 on shows, there was no formal contract existing between him and Olamide’s YBNL record label.
Olamide also issued a statement to Guardian Life, and claimed that YBNL has a promotion calendar that Lyta refused to follow.
However, there are still reports which maintains that Lyta left YBNL due t contractual and personal issues.
After leaving YBNL, Lyta went on to sign with Doro Music Gang and released a single titled ‘Monalisa” which was produced bby Killertunes. The music video for “Monalisa” was directed by Director K and amassed over 500,000 views within the first month of it’s release.
Few weeks after releasing the single “Monalisa”, Davido approached Lyta for recording an official remix for the single. After reaching the agreement, Davido and Lyta flew to Dakar for the remix and video shoot. And on August 30, 2019, Elias Light of Rolling Stone magazine described the song as a “handsome contradiction, with fierce expressions of yearning”.
The music video for the remix was directed by Director K, and Lyta gained exposure following his collaboration with Davido on the remix.
