Born Divine Ikubor on 1st May 2000, and musically known as Rema, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper who was born into a Christian family in Benin City, Edo state of Nigeria.

He discovered his musical talent by rapping and singing while he was in secondary school at Ighile group of schools in Edo state. Rema was raised by his mother after he loosed both his father and brother in a short period of time.

He broke into the limelight of the Nigerian music industry in 2019 when he released his hit single titled “Dumebi’, and after the release of that hit single, Rema landed a record contract with one of the leading record labels in Nigeria.

It is worth noting that Rema is still signed to this record label ever since ad in tis post we are going to reveal that record label which Rema is still signed to in this 2025.

In this 2025, Rema is signed to Jonzing world record label which is a subsidiary of Mavins record label in Nigeria, it is rather unfortunate that some people assume he is signed to two record labels, while some are  of the opinion that Mavins record is his actual record label.

It is often reported that he gained recognition soon after posting a viral freestyle video of D’Prince’s song “Gucci Gang” on Instagram.

After being impressed by his talented performance, D’Prince flew him to Lagos and where he offered him a record contract with Jonzing World, which is a subsidiary of Mavin Records owned by music executive and producer Don Jazzy.

After signing his record contract, Rema would move on to release a self-titled debut EP titled “Rema” and the song topped Apple Music’s Nigerian charts in no time.

Rema gained worldwide recognition when he released the remix of his 2022 single “Calm Down”, which featured American singer Selena Gomez, the song peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, and also led Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart for a record-setting 58 weeks.

On 11th July 2024, Rema dropped his second studio album which was titled HEIS, and this title is said to come from the Greek word for the numeral 1. The album has 11 tracks which features popular Nigerian artists like OdumoduBlvck on the song “War Machine” and Shallipopi on the song “Benin Boys”.

Rema has also received several breakthroughs and awards which includes:

  1. The MTV Video Music Award for Best Afrobeats Video and the Billboard Music Award for Top Afrobeats Song .
  2. On November 7, 2022, he was awarded for achieving 1 billion streams worldwide during his London concert.
  3. In February of 2023, he won the Digital Artist of the Year award at the Soundcity MVP Awards held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.
  4. In April of 2023, he released the Rave & Roses Ultra, which became the first African album to cross two billion streams on Spotify.
  5. On the same year 2023, precisely October 26, Rema released the Ravage EP, and on 30 October 2023, he performed at the Ballon d’Or ceremony held Theatre du Châtelet in Paris, France.
